    Welcome!

Hey there and welcome to Torn City. If you're a new player to Torn, there is a lot to take in. Give yourself some time to breath in this game and you will be fine. In the segments I've provided here, I have taken all the info I've read over the years and consolidated them in one easy place! Torn is constantly growing and evolving, so if while you are reading If there is old info or misguiding steps within my guides, please notify, and I will work to get it updated or clarified.

What this segment is all about is finding a Goal suitable to you among all the possibilities, and there are many! There's goals you can do on your own, and goals that you should only do with the people you trust. There's goals you can do with multiple unknown people, but you should put up limits, and be carful. You can focus on just one goal or little bit on several goals. This is entirely up to you and your own setup. When I say setup, I am referring to your items, stocks, company, faction, merits, education, etc.

You should know that this game has been running for almost 18 years and that since this is a text based MMO, people are the most important factor to this game. Do not piss off people, especially those that you don't know anything about. And I'm serious about this. Let me repeat in big bold red letters:

DO NOT PISS OFF PEOPLE YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT!
People in this game remember bad experiences. Even if you change your name and your profile picture they could they can still track you in many different ways (such as adding you to their friends/enemies list, kept in-game emails, event notices, trades, expired chats, or even have written down your game ID!) This game is a social one, and there are communities both within the game itself and especially on 3rd party sites where lists are kept and passed around, and you don't wont to get on those bad lists.

Factions often have and consult "Watch lists". This is where faction leaders talk to each other about who is who and what they have done. You may get in a faction, then get kicked out due to drama. There are "Black Lists" for things such as not paying for your revive or you mugged someone. You left your faction or company without warning, you may experience being blocked from certain communities and services. Mission/Chain lists, if you piss off the wrong person they may use you to beat up on for their own gains. Stealing from the wrong person may end your Torn account, by constant harassments from bigger groups(Bounties, fly delays etc...)

None of this should scare you away from playing, it should simply stress the importance of flying under the radar, especially while still early in your game. Now that we have overly stressed this warning, let's get back to the main point of this section, goals.

You need to thing about and start aiming for a Goal from the beginning. I'll use one that I like as an example, but this doesn't mean you have to do this particular idea. Feel free to change small things too, to make it your own. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to play Torn, but there is definitely inefficient ways to play it. Nothing is worse than realizing you have wasted time that could have been better spent.

To this end, be sure to know what you are going for and stack for it properly. Change it up as it suits you. Just remember, Torn is NOT you first priority in life. It is very easy to get drawn in and spend significant amount of time in game. Just remember, you can ALWAYS run it in the background, and don't forget to take advantage of the events that fall under the Calendar section in-game.

Here is an example of some goals and how they relate.

    Crime

Crime is a primary action within Torn, and Crime Experience is one of the hidden stats in the game that you want to raise as fast as possible. A good way to do this is through the Arson crime. So Goal 1 could be, gain the ability to do Arsons. So what do you need to accomplish this goal?

    Education

Arson is considered a "Driving Crime". In order to unlock it, you need a Driver's license, which requires the "Drivers License" GEN2113 course in General studies. To take that class you have to first take "Introduction to General studies" Gen1112. Now that you know this, you can plan accordingly.
    1. "Introduction to General studies" Gen1112
    2. "Drivers License" GEN2113
These two courses will take you a little over 6 days and 12 days respectively. Now that you know, you can concentrate on this. Education is done in the background and doesn't effect your ability to do other things in the game. Like most things however, there are ways to reduce this time.

    Job

In general, when you start you will have nonexistent work stats. All that will be available to you are the 3 basic city jobs. (Casino, Army and Grocer). But there are also player owned businesses. One type is the Hair Salon. If you can find yourself in the employment of a 7 star hair salon, you can gain the ability to reduce you education time by 30 minutes per job point you spend. Job points are earned each day by staying employed. Getting a job at a 7 star hair salon will not be easy, these positions are competitive, so you may need to spend some time working on your work stats.

    Boosters and Enhancers

Doing Crime in torn requires nerve. You start with a very low Natural Nerve Bar (NNB), but luckily you can increase it temporarily with many items, the easiest and cheapest of which would be Beer. Beed can be bought for cheap at Bit's and Bobs but it sells out FAST and restocks roughly every 15 minutes. Plan accordingly.

Also every crime just about has some form of enhancer item that increases your chances of success. For our example above, the Wind proof lighter is the appropriate booster. At the time of the writing of this article this item sells for roughly 82 Million. That is not small change for a new player. Plan accordingly.

    Energy

Energy (E) is something used in Torn in order to do certain actions. It is a regenerating resource. For non-subscribers/donator pack users, natural E is capped at 100, and it regenerates at a rate of 5 points ever 15 minutes. This makes this resource a precious comodity, so you have to plan it's use accordingly. Are you going to use it to complete missions when you have to attack someone? Chasing merits? Or maybe you are doing some "slutting" (Being paid to attack higher level players and lose in order to increase their Defends Won stats). The last is a great way to make money!

    Drugs

Again, like most things, Energy can be replenished with the use of items. Cannabis, LSD and Xanax are ways to increase energy up to a total max of 1000. However overuse of drugs can cause you to overdose, which has serious negative effects on your game play for awhile. Be aware of your cooldown timers.

Background: Racing -> Flying -> Racing when it's more convient.

Faction: Crime/Voracity/Excursion. But the most important is that the faction, the people and the atmosphere suits you and your goal.
Income Spent On: Work stats/WSU/Bank/PI (In Piggy bank)/FHG/Big Suitcase. Consider lighter
Merits: 3-4 into CRS right before Driving License is done for arsons. Education -> Bank -> Nerves
    Mission credits: Books/Piggy bank
NPC Job: Education -> either one that fits your path better.
    Property: PI lease/Side vault

Make your own version. If you want all is in on battle stats, switch it up, same goes for what ever else you want to pursuit.
